The Towns of Wigan and Leigh Welcome You!

The towns of Wigan and Leigh are situated in the North West of England between Liverpool and Manchester. The area is convenient for motorways and Wigan is on the main north/south rail network. The international airports of Manchester and Liverpool are also close by. There is good public transport to nearby cities and throughout the borough.

The borough of Wigan has a surprising mixture of character, history and heritage.  Its coal mining history remains with several former colliery sites being redeveloped to inject new life in both housing and industry.

Out and About
The town of Wigan is home to the Grand Arcade, which offers a fabulous line-up of major retail stores. For those wanting a more peaceful retreat, Mesnes Park is located between the two Wigan Campus buildings.

Close by is Haigh Country Park, which offers 1250 acres of park and woodland with activities for all ages.  In contrast to this, you could choose to experience the vast array of pubs, clubs and restaurants on offer in the town centre. Leigh is just 7 miles away and the town is growing to accommodate the needs of its residents.  It has a town centre with a wealth of retail shops, the Spinning Gate Shopping Centre and the newly built Leigh Sports Village.

Interested in Sport?
Wigan and Leigh have excellent sports facilities - whether you are a spectator or a participant you will be able to follow your sporting interests during your time at the College. Just about every sport is played somewhere in the area. The 25,000 capacity DW Stadium is home to premiership football team Wigan Athletic and Rugby League’s Wigan Warriors.

In Leigh the £83m Leigh Sports Village was opened by Her Majesty the Queen, providing multi-purpose sports facilities and is home to Leigh Centurions Rugby League, Leigh Genesis FC and many other local sports teams.  World famous sporting venues such as Manchester United FC and Liverpool Football Club are within easy reach.  Lancashire Cricket Club is also accessible and about 45 minutes away.
