From an early age Ben Gill and Martin Hayes both had a passion for Engineering and were determined to make a career in the industry. They were delighted to both secure an apprenticeship at Ruberoid Building Products, a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of waterproofing materials and associated products for the building and construction industry. Ruberoid chose Wigan & Leigh College as its provider of choice to deliver the programme and started their programme in 2009.
Ben is enjoying having the opportunity to learn whilst he earns and said ‘The apprenticeship appealed to me because it combines both theory and practical work. I’ve always been interested in the mechanics behind technology, and how things work. Through the apprenticeship I am working in an organisation where other people share my passion.’
Martin is ambitious and would recommend apprenticeships as a great way to start a career ‘The Engineering apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to learn new skills, and understand what it’s like to work in a real life environment. I am learning a trade and gaining a nationally recognised qualification that will help me to grow in an industry that I want to work in.’
