What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining a nationally recognised qualification and workplace experience.
As an Apprentice you are employed and earn a wage equal to, or greater than, the current National Insurance threshold. You can earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace.
As an Apprentice you will generally spend four days a week in the workplace and one day a week at College, working towards your formal qualification. This timetable will vary depending on the occupational area you are completing your Apprenticeship in.
Our Apprentices follow individually designed programmes of work, training and assessment, to achieve competence in a chosen occupational area, to a level suited to their aspirations. They also develop Functional Skills and gain the underpinning knowledge they need to do the job.
Who can become an Apprentice?
You are eligible to start an Apprenticeship between the ages and 16 24, subject to entry criteria.
An Apprenticeship requires that you are employed and that the employer can provide the relevant experience required to fulfil the Apprenticeship programme.
Whilst we can provide the training element of the Apprenticeship programme, you must secure employment.
What next?
Once you have chosen the occupational area you wish to complete an Apprenticeship in, you need to complete the application form on page 113 and send it to the College.
You must seek an employer to fulfil the employment element of the Apprenticeship programme. You can submit your application to the College, although your application cannot be processed until you have employment.
We recommend that you register at the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) website www.apprenticeships.org.uk allowing you to search and apply for Apprenticeship vacancies in your area. Your local Connexions service can also help with finding an employer.
When you have secured employment please contact Training Works on 01942 761940 so that you’re application can be processed.
We recommend that if a full time equivalent course is available in your chosen occupational area, then you complete an application for this course. This will provide you with an alternative route if you are unable to secure an employer or change your mind about the Apprenticeship programme. |
