Adult Learning Grant - Get New Skills and Qualifications

With the Adult Learning Grant (ALG), you can now get paid to go back into education - and get the skills you need, to get the job you want. If you're eligible, you'll get up to £30 a week while you're studying - around £1,000 a year* - to help pay for things like travel, books and materials.

You can choose from a whole range of courses to gain qualifications that are relevant to actual jobs and improve your employability. And there may be no fees to pay for college courses either, if you're studying for your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

If you are thinking about studying at the College and want to see if you may be entitled to the *Adult Learning Grant. Can you answer yes to the following?

Are you between 19 and working age?

• Will you be studying full-time and committed to 100% attendance?
• Is this your first full Level 2 or 3 qualification (including BTEC, NVQ, AVCE, A Level)?

If you're working part-time, or living at home, you could still get ALG. The amount you receive will be dependent upon your income and that of any co-habiting partner.

Financial Support for Part-time Students

Part-time students, who are studying at least 50% of an equivalent full-time course, may be entitled to a fee grant and/or course grant (dependent on your income and that of your husband, wife or partner).

Application forms (PTG1) can be accessed from the DfES website or alternatively by ringing the Student Finance Information Line (as above).

Access to Learning Fund
The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) is available to provide help for students on low incomes who may need extra financial support to access and remain in higher education. More specifically the fund can be used to:

ALF is available to both full-time and part-time students, once enrolled. However it is subject to eligibility criteria.
