Apprenticeship Support for Employers

We have just made your decision to take on a young apprentice easier.

Wigan & Leigh College has access to funding for businesses that employ a new 18-24 year old apprentice.  There are many ambitious and enthusiastic young people who need an opportunity to make their first step into employment, who have not yet found that all important opening. 

An apprentice can help your business grow, Over 80% of those employers who employ apprentices agree they make their workplace more productive.

In order to secure the £2500 worth of funding the apprentice must:

  • Be 18-24 years old
  • Be unemployed for 6 months at the start of the training and in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance
  • Have attended a minimum of 10 hrs on the College’s “Support for Unemployment Project”

*Your business will be paid:

  • £1000 after the apprentice has completed 6 week employment and apprenticeship programme
  • A further £1000/£1250 or £1500 depending on the salary you pay the apprentice at 26 weeks
  • You must be an SME employing between 1 and 249 employees
