Foundation Degree in Supporting the Mental Health of Children and Young People in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire

Venue: Parson's Walk Centre, Wigan

Is this course for me?
Yes, if you wish to study at Degree level, with an interest in a critical approach to the study of children's and adolescents' mental health.  It is intended to enhance your future career prospects in the field of supporting young people, and also prvide you with the skills and knowledge in your current career.

What is the course content?
Study and lifelong learning skills; child development; mental health promotion and well being; working with children and young people; foundations for practice; identifying mental health needs; youth and society; the research process; supporting professional practice; interventions with children and families; policy and practice - an introduction.

How is the course run?
Part-time for three years from September to June each year.

How will I be assessed?
By the production of assignments, seminar presentations, portfolio development and practical assessment.

What qualifications do I need?
One A Level (120 UCAS points), NVQ3, National Certificate/Diploma in a relevant subject or Access to HE certificate. Mature entrants will be considered through the Accreditation of Prior Learning route.

Where will this course lead me?
The Foundation Degree is intended to allow progression onto the possible nurse education programmes at UCLan, undergraduate degree in Health and Social Care, development of further skills and knowledge.

Is there anything else I need to know?
Applicants will also need access to children and young people, to practice and develop their skills. The content and learning outcomes will address 'The Common Core Skills and Knowledge for the Children's Workforce' (DfES & DH). Core functions CAMHS tiers 3,4 and Skills for Health.
