Student through to Young Designer of the Year Competition

A Wigan student has entered a competition that will see her competing at the Clothes Show Live this December. Sarah Bimpson who is currently studying Fashion and Clothing at Wigan & Leigh College entered the Clothes Show Live – Young Designer of the Year competition and is now one of ten finalists that will compete for the title of Young Designer of the Year. 

The brief was to design a red carpet dress for a style icon and Sarah chose to design for pop superstar Lady Gaga.  Sarah said, “I love fashion, I love being creative and turning designs into reality.  I chose Lady Gaga as my style icon because her style and sense of fashion is really inspiring.”

The winner will receive £1,000 prize money and a weeks work experience within the fashion industry.  They will also see £1,000 donated to their university or college. 

Dawn Cunningham, Clothing & Fashion Course Leader at Wigan & Leigh College expressed her joy for the budding designer said, “We are delighted and extremely proud of Sarah’s achievements.  She consistently produces excellent work and thoroughly deserves to be Young Designer of the Year.”

The final will take place on Tuesday 6th December at the Birmingham NEC.
