Over 500 students from Wigan & Leigh College are embracing virtual learning after an innovative workshop was delivered by Google experts.
Innovation giants Google visited the College to deliver a number of exciting workshops which enabled students to explore the world and beyond through virtual reality technology.
The Google Expedition software is set to enable local students to take field trips virtually anywhere, from international space to a sunny Spanish coastal resort.
The pioneering 360 degree technology aims to bring lessons to life and take students to a whole host of locations which haven’t been possible before.
During the virtual reality masterclass Google experts enabled students to look down on earth, as well as take a trip to The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
Tom Martin, Wigan & Leigh College Lecturer and e-champion says, “The College is committed to providing innovative learning opportunities to all students. Thanks to Google we’re now able to provide students with virtual tours which will vastly enhance a student’s creativity and passion for learning. We anticipate incorporating the virtual learning into all aspects of teaching from English and maths to science and performing arts.”
“The students who participated in the day thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained new insights into their chosen area of study. For example, Health and Social Care students were able to explore the inside of the body and Sports Studies students looked at structures of the muscle. Those studying English explored a coral reef and space to inspire and develop descriptive language. The College’s tutors are also embracing the technology and now plan to incorporate the exciting technology into lessons in the near future.”
