Tony Middlehurst, 20, who previously attended a local college was recruited as an Apprentice at the Leigh based business Westco.
Tony is currently engaging and working within different areas of the business to understand and gain a range of skills whilst gaining a Business Administration Level 3 qualification.
This unique approach is a great opportunity for an Apprentice to understand which job role would be more suited to them and which sector they would most like to work in the future.
Tony, says, “An apprenticeship involves a good mixture of hands on experience as well as gaining a qualification”.
His biggest achievement involves working on a new project in the warehouse which involves contacting suppliers about changing quantities, packaging and implementing barcodes onto the products.
Tony’s Supervisor Darren Mercer added, “I have sought feedback from our internal and external candidates who have found the courses both rewarding and challenging. As a company we can see already what the Apprentices bring which is mainly fresh ideas, exuberance and new eyes looking at old problems”
According to the Department for Education Apprenticeships boost a business’s productivity by on average £214 per week.
