Jon hodson - course leader, creative design for gaming

"I teach because it's hugely rewarding to be able to help guide the next generation of inspirational designers to meet their potential."

CURRENT ROLE

I currently teach Graphic Design from level 2 up to Foundation Degree level within the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College. I am also the course leader on the Level 3 Creative Design for Gaming course.

BEFORE TEACHING ...

I worked on a wide range of freelance design projects.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS ...

Any time I’ve seen my design work in a shop is always a highlight.

INSPIRATION...

I love that the design industry, whether it’s Graphic Design or Games Design, is all about the next thing, the new. To be involved in teaching something that is forever changing is a huge amount of fun and very inspirational. As a graphic designer I’ve always loved Swiss style type design but conversely also the work of people like David Carson who threw out the rules of Swiss style to create something diametrically opposed and yet still very exciting. In games design I’ve always loved those teams that can create an entire world, the recent Zelda game on Nintendo Switch is a master class in this regard.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND...

After completing my A Levels I took an Art Foundation course (here at Wigan & Leigh College) before moving onto a degree in Visual Arts and Culture at Salford University. I subsequently completed my PGCE at Edge Hill University.
