Is this course for me?
This course is ideal if you are interested in technology, computers and digital systems, and want to develop practical skills alongside academic study. It suits students who enjoy problem-solving, programming and understanding how technology is used in business and everyday life.
Students taking this qualification will normally study it alongside at least two full A Levels, making it a great option for those wanting a mixed academic and vocational programme.
You will study a range of topics linked to the modern computing industry, including:
Programming and software development
Computer systems and hardware
Cyber security and data management
Website and app development
The impact of digital technology on organisations and society
Practical projects that develop technical and problem-solving skills
The course combines both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical work.
Assessment is through a combination of:
External assessments and examinations
Coursework and practical projects
Full time for two academic years
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-5 including Maths and English
GCSE Computing or Computer Science is useful but not essential
University study in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering or Digital Technologies
Higher apprenticeships and careers in IT support, programming, web development, cyber security or data analysis
Employment within the growing digital and technology sector
