A Level Geography
Is this course for me?
This course is ideal if you are curious about the world around you and want to understand current global issues such as climate change, natural hazards, migration and sustainability. It suits students who enjoy both science and humanities subjects, and who like analysing real-world data and case studies. Geography also develops valuable skills in research, problem-solving and decision-making.
You will study a wide range of physical and human geography topics, including:
Physical geography such as water and carbon cycles, coastal systems and natural hazards
Human geography including global systems, population, urban environments and economic change
Contemporary issues such as climate change and sustainability
A fieldwork investigation where you collect and analyse your own data
Use of case studies, data analysis and geographical skills
80% written exams (three papers at the end of Year 13)

20% coursework (NEA)
Independent fieldwork investigation
Full time for two academic years
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 5 and 2 GCSE subjects graded 6
including Maths and English
This course can lead to:
University degrees in Geography, Environmental Science, Geology, Urban Planning or International Development
Careers in environmental management, planning, sustainability, teaching, travel and tourism, or research
Transferable skills valued in many sectors, including data analysis, critical thinking and communication

Students aged 19+ will need to pay an exam fee of £60.00
