Art & Design Diploma
Is this course for me?
Art & Design courses are taught by expert tutors with industry experience at the Centre for Excellence in Creative Arts, based in the Parson's Walk building. You will work on a wide range of projects, including live briefs set by external clients from local companies and design agencies. You will also showcase your work to the public through exhibitions and competitions. If you are interested in Art and Design then this broad course provides a strong introduction and grounding in a variety of Art and Design materials and techniques. The course will help you develop your skills, knowledge and creativity through practical projects and workshops, and will enable you to build an impressive portfolio of work.
You will develop your practical skills by exploring materials and processes in a range of areas, including Fine Art, 3D Design, Textiles, Graphic Design and digital skills. You will also investigate the theory of art by analysing the work of respected historical and contemporary artists and designers. You will experiment with a range of diverse materials and processes such as Photoshop, observational drawing and painting, printing, ceramics, sculpture and fabric manipulation. During the final stage of the course in your final major project, you will have the opportunity to specialise in one of the areas covered and display your work in our End of Year Exhibition.
Coursework is project-based and is assessed throughout the course by your tutors. A range of assessment methods are used including external 'live' projects. You are required to evaluate your own coursework progress and in tutorials. You will not be required to sit an examination.
