Is this course for me?
Are you fascinated by the wonders of the human body? Do you ever wonder how our cells communicate, how our organs function, or what makes our biology so incredibly complex? If so, we would love for you to join us for an exciting journey into the world of biology.
Biology is the study of living organisms, encompassing their structure, function, growth, evolution, and interactions with the environment.
OCR A Level Biology explores the intricate web of life, from microscopic cells to complex ecosystems, allowing us to understand the fundamental processes that shape and sustain our planet.
You will cover the following units: development of practical skills in biology, foundations in biology, exchange and transport, biodiversity, evolution and disease, communication, homeostasis and energy, and genetics, evolution band ecosystems.
You will have the opportunity to carry out ecological fieldwork, and attend talks and workshops on key topics. You will also be able to join the Medical Society, where you will investigate broader and deeper topics related to medicine and the life sciences.
Through a combination of written exams and practical assessments.
Full-time for two academic years.
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-5 including English and 2 GCSE subjects graded 9-6 including Maths and Combined Science / Biology
On successful completion we will support you in applying to prestigious universities nationwide to study. If you wish to secure employment, we will support you in your job searches and applications.
Extended Choices option is not suitable for those who wish to go on to study medicine and veterinary science.
As part of your Academic Development Day you'll connect with working scientists over a text-based chat in the nationwide event, I'M A SCIENTIST: Get Me Out Of Here! You'll learn about a range of careers and scientists' different academic journeys. It's an opportunity to meet in a neutral and friendly setting, to ask about research, studying, topics of interest, and current science news.
