Health - Mental Health Nursing T Level
Is this course for me?
So what are T Levels? They are high quality work focused alternatives to A levels. There is academic study, coupled with practical, industry related skills and 45 days of industry placement built into the course. T Levels are an alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other vocational & technical courses. Equivalent to 3 A Levels, a T Level focuses on vocational skills and can help you into skilled employment, university study or apprenticeships. If you prefer a practical approach to learning yet want a predominantly classroom-based course the T Level is for you.
The T Level Health was developed in partnership with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust to provide a pioneering programme relevant to the health industry. The programme is based at the Parsons Walk Centre in Wigan and is new for 2021. The core element of a T Level in Health will boost your knowledge in a range of topics such as the principles of good scientific and clinical practice, as well as fundamental scientific concepts alongside an understanding of standard operating procedures, management of equipment and work areas, stock control and storage, and the importance of quality standards and health and safety. You will also learn how to manage data in a healthcare setting. Your occupational specialism will cover all aspects of mental health nursing including recognising the signs, symptoms and treatments of a range of conditions. You will also examine mental health and its impact on service users from children to the elderly. You will be able to put everything you learn into practice, with an industry placement of around 45 days. This will provide an amazing opportunity for you to work with an employer while you study, in a hospital or other healthcare setting, and gain invaluable experience as well as key skills that employers are looking for. You will also study maths, digital and English at an appropriate level.
Throughout the year by a range of methods, including assignments, presentations, group work, written exams, and an employer set project.
Full time for two academic years.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including Maths, English & Science. The shortfall in Maths can only be a grade 3 (not lower).
You may progress to university and choose from a range of degrees in in health sector subjects, to a degree apprenticeship or relevant employment. The NHS needs to recruit 190,000 more staff by 2027 to meet thedemands of a growing and ageing population. Around 29,000 nurses are employed in the region, and this number is expected to increase over the coming years. Mental heath nursing is practiced in a number of settings including the community or in hospitals or secure environments such as prisons. Job roles include Mental Health Nurse, Counsellor, Psychologist and Substance misuse recovery worker.
