Media Studies A Level
Is this course for me?
If you're passionate about film, TV, music, or digital media, A Level Media Studies is for you. Analyse how media shapes the world, create your own content, and build skills for careers in marketing, journalism, and beyond.
Learners study a range of media forms, including advertising, film, magazines, music videos, newspapers, online media, radio, TV, and video games, through WJEC-set and teacher-selected products. These media texts hold social, cultural, and historical significance, representing diverse genres, audiences, and global contexts. Students explore industry structures, including non-commercial and minority-led media, and analyse contemporary and emerging trends.
The course is built around a theoretical framework that develops critical understanding of:
• Media language - how forms, codes, and conventions create meaning
• Representation - how media portray people, events, and issues
• Media industries - how production, distribution, and circulation shape content
• Audiences - how media engage, influence, and are shaped by consumers
The WJEC products for Components 1 and 2 are periodically reviewed to ensure relevance, offering a dynamic and stimulating learning experience.
