Is this course for me?
If you are curious about the way things work, love using maths and enjoy topics such as astrophysics, quantum physics, cosmology, electricity and magnetism, or other fascinating areas. Physics will prepare you to be astonished about this amazing place we've woken up in.
You will learn mechanics, electricity, quantum physics, magnetism, how stars work and how they age, how we know the age of the universe, optics and how light is both a particle and a wave, and how we use all the previous areas in medical imaging.
You will sit two exams in Year 1, gaining an AS qualification, and three exams in year 2, you will also complete 12 required practicals.
Full-time for two academic years.
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-5 including English and 2 GCSE subjects graded 9-6 including Maths and Combined Science / Physics.
You can continue to do higher education in many areas, such as physics, engineering, law, accounting, medicine and work in the defence industry, astronomy, ecology, marine biology, architecture, construction engineering.
You will, gradually, become more and more independent, initially being given instructions on exactly what to do in a practical investigation, until, at the end, choosing to investigate. You'll develop from learning how to plug in a voltmeter correctly, to selecting oscilloscopes, counters, frequency generators and measuring transformer performances.
