Curious about the human mind and behaviour? A-Level Psychology explores fascinating topics like mental health, obedience, and criminal psychology. Learn how we think, feel, and act through real-world case studies and scientific research. A-Level Psychology covers key topics across three components.
Research Methods introduces students to essential techniques for collecting and analysing data, including self-report, experiments, observation, and correlation. Students will learn how to plan and conduct research, record and analyse data, write reports, and explore the role of science in psychology. Practical activities allow students to apply these skills.
Psychological Themes through Core Studies examines ten key themes using classic and contemporary studies. Students will explore different psychological perspectives, methodological issues, and debates within psychology.
Applied Psychology includes a compulsory section on Issues in Mental Health, providing an introduction to mental health topics. Students will also study two applied psychology options, Criminal Psychology and Sports and Exercise Psychology, analysing key issues and debates within these fields.
This course provides a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and real-world applications.
Component 1: Research Methods: 50% of AS Qualification, 30% of A2 Qualification
Component 2: Psychological Themes Through Core Studies: 50% of AS Qualification, 35% of A2 Qualification
Component 3: Applied Psychology 35% of A2 Qualification
Full-time for two academic years.
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-5 including English and Maths and 2 GCSE subjects graded 9-6 including Maths or Science.
A-Level Psychology provides a strong foundation for a variety of future paths. Many students progress to university to study psychology, sociology, criminology, business studies, or healthcare-related courses. This qualification also supports careers in mental health, education, forensic psychology, business, and law enforcement. With its focus on research, analysis, and understanding human behaviour, A-Level Psychology equips you with valuable skills for a wide range of professions.
You will benefit from a range of trips, and guest speakers including a moot courtroom, participating in a mock trial, guest talks from academics within the field, and those who work with domestic abuse survivors.
