AM2 - Achievement Measurement Test
Is this course for me?
The AM2 test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) Organisation and the Sector Skills Council for the Electrotechnical Industry.
The AM2 Electrical Test is suitable for learners who are nearing the end of their electrical training and need to complete the final industry assessment required to become a qualified electrician.
This assessment is intended for:
Learners completing or who have completed a Level 3 Electrical qualification
Electrical apprentices working towards full occupational competence
Learners who are ready to demonstrate their skills independently to industry standards
You should already have strong knowledge and practical experience in electrical installation work, including health and safety, installation practices, and inspection and testing.
The AM2 is a practical, synoptic assessment designed to test your ability to work safely, accurately, and professionally under realistic working conditions. It brings together all the knowledge and skills you have developed during your training.
During the AM2 assessment, you will complete tasks such as:
Safe isolation and risk assessment
Installation of electrical systems, including containment and wiring
Fault diagnosis and rectification
Inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical installations
Completion of electrical documentation to industry requirements
Demonstrating correct use of tools, equipment and PPE
Working in line with current wiring regulations and health and safety standards
The assessment is carried out under controlled conditions to simulate real workplace expectations.
The AM2 is a formal practical assessment, not a taught course.
Assessment includes:
Observation by qualified independent assessors
Timed practical tasks carried out over several days
Written or on?screen knowledge questions
Evaluation of completed electrical work, testing results and documentation
You must demonstrate competence in all required areas to achieve a pass. The AM2 is assessed as Pass or Fail.
3 x 8 hour days
To have extensive experience in the Electrical Installation Industry or near completion of the Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification.
Successful completion of the AM2 allows you to progress to:
Fully qualified electrician status
JIB Gold Card application (subject to other requirements)
Employment as an electrician in domestic, commercial or industrial settings
Further specialist electrical qualifications (e.g. EV charging, inspection and testing, renewable technologies)
The AM2 is a key industry requirement and an essential step in becoming a recognised professional electrician.
Must have the appropriate PPE available.

Students aged 16-18 do not pay exam fees.
Students aged 19+ will need to pay an exam fee of £98.00
