This course is ideal if you are interested in starting a career in the construction industry as a carpenter or joiner. It is suitable for learners who want to develop industry?relevant skills and progress towards employment or an apprenticeship.

Those who may have completed a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery Qualification
You should be motivated, able to work safely and accurately, and prepared to develop both technical skills and professional behaviours expected in the workplace.

Construction is a modern industry with a wide range of opportunities. It combines technology, creativity, and practical skills, including digital design, 3D modelling, and more sustainable methods of building.
CTEC courses are developed with employers, ensuring you gain the skills companies are actively looking for. You'll build real experience and develop the knowledge employers value, helping you stand out when applying for apprenticeships or jobs.
This qualification develops the technical knowledge, practical skills and employability behaviours required to work in carpentry and joinery. Learning takes place through a combination of classroom sessions and extensive workshop?based practical activities.
You will study topics such as:
Health, safety and welfare in construction
Carpentry and joinery tools, equipment and materials
Accurate measuring, marking out and cutting
Producing a range of carpentry and joinery joints
Constructing doors, frames and other timber components
Introduction to site carpentry and workshop joinery techniques
Working practices and standards within the construction industry
Communication, teamwork and employability skills
The course is designed to reflect real working conditions and prepare you for progression into industry.
Assessment is practical and continuous, allowing you to demonstrate your skills throughout the course.
You will be assessed through:
Practical assessments carried out in workshop conditions
Tutor observations of your technical skills and safe working practices
Portfolio evidence, including photographs, written tasks and worksheets
Online and Written Exams
Knowledge?based assignments related to construction theory and methods
There are no final written exams. Assessment focuses on your ability to carry out tasks to the required standard and follow industry?recognised practices.
Full time for one academic year
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-3 or equivalent including English and Maths.
On successful completion of this qualification, you can progress to:
An Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery
Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery Qualifications
Further construction?related training or site?based qualifications
This course provides a strong foundation for learners aiming to develop a long?term career in carpentry and joinery.
Due to the practical nature of the course, all students will require essential safety equipment, including work trousers and steel toe?cap boots. You will be fully supported by our experienced, trade?qualified tutors to help you achieve your goals.
