Counselling Skills Level 2 Certificate
Is this course for me?
Many people find it helpful and empowering to seek the support of counselling at some point in their lives. Those with the correct understanding, knowledge and skills can provide them with support to improve personal well-being in a work or personal context. This qualification focusses on key counselling skills to enable you to provide support wherever it is required. The course provides you with an understanding of various theoretical approaches, as well as covering the importance of a counselling relationship and helpful interaction techniques.

You could use this knowledge to complement an existing role, or as a basis for continued study to attain a qualification in this sector. Please note, the course does not provide the qualification needed to practice as a counsellor.

*Witness Testimony Requirement
As part of Unit 1, learners must complete a Witness Testimony.
This involves asking someone to confirm that they have observed you using basic counselling skills, such as:
• Active listening
• Showing empathy
• Using appropriate questioning techniques
Who can be a witness?
A suitable person, such as a manager, colleague, supervisor, or other professional, who has directly observed you using counselling skills in practice.
You will need to provide:
• The witness's full name

The witness is not assessing your performance — they are simply confirming that they have seen you apply counselling skills in a real conversation.
You will complete online platform-based questions — there are no exams and no grades.
To pass, you must show that you have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria set out in the qualification specification.
Our qualified assessors will give you detailed feedback, 1:1 support, and clear targets to help you succeed.
Support is available through the learning portal, email, or phone.
If your work doesn't meet the required standard, you will receive feedback, a new target date, and the chance to resubmit.
