Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and Media Practice
Is this course for me?
This course is an intensive, exciting and challenging learning experience which allows you to develop your independence, creativity, awareness and potential, both visually and intellectually. Through this one year programme, you will extend your creative and conceptual skills in a variety of art media and build a strong portfolio of personal work, prior to applying to Higher Education.
In the Exploratory Phase students experience a range of art disciplines, including: Fine arts, 3D Design, Sculpture, Ceramics, Textiles/Fashion, Graphic Design, Print/ Illustration and Photography, Observational Drawing and Contextual Studies. After initial exploration, you will then concentrate on a chosen area of study in order to prepare for application to Higher Education. In the Confirmatory Phase, you will plan and negotiate a final major project theme, which represents the culmination of your Foundation experience. This final work will exhibited at the End of Year Show, which is open to the public.
Your project work will be internally assessed on your Exploratory Phase by your Tutors. Your Confirmatory Phase final major project, will be assessed by your tutors and confirmed by an external BTEC Examiner.
One academic year
A portfolio of work demonstrating your current level of art and design skills. A short interview will also take place with the Course Leader to discuss your work and future progression intentions.
Higher Education or employment.
The Foundation Course is ideally suited to adult learners or 18+ students who have completed a Level 3/A Levels. This one year course will provide the opportunity to develop a strong personal visual arts portfolio, in order to apply for a Higher Education arts programme at college or university.

Students aged 16-18 do not pay exam fees.
Students aged 19+ will need to pay an exam fee of £175.00
