Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector Diploma
Is this course for me?
The Level 1 Diploma is in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector. The qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills through introducing you to the hair industry including how you should present a professional image in the salon.
To further enhance your practical skills you will have the opportunity to learn the following; Shampoo and Style, Plaiting and twisting, Temporary colour, Make up, Nail art, Reception skills and Health and safety.
To complete the qualification, you will work towards your Maths and English GCSE alongside your course, until you gain a grade 4 in the subject
Learners on this program will also complete community work, employability skills and professional development, which will support gaining employment.
Creation of a Portfolio
Practical assessments
Knowledge based assessments (through the completion of work booklets)
Knowledge based on-line exams
GCSE Maths and English exams if required
Full Time for one academic year
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-2 or equivalent.
When you have successfully completed this qualification will have the opportunity to progress to one of the following qualifications:
• Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
• Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
• Level 2 Diploma in Make up Artistry
• Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology
You are required to:
Be ready - Present a professional image in the salon environment by wearing uniform - this can be purchased from the college
Be respectful - Communicate and behave professionally in the salon and college environment - you will be required to give and receive treatments
Be safe - Follow safe and hygienic working practices to include bringing correct tools and equipment - this can be purchased from the college

Students aged 16-18 do not pay exam fees.
Students aged 19+ will need to pay an exam fee of £124.00
