This course is ideal if you are interested in developing the skills needed to work in the painting and decorating trade. It is suitable for learners who want to progress towards employment or an apprenticeship within the construction industry.

Those who may have completed a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating Qualification

This qualification develops the technical knowledge, practical skills and employability behaviours required for painting and decorating roles. Learning takes place through a combination of classroom?based lessons and extensive practical workshop activities.
You will study areas such as:
Health, safety and welfare in a construction environment
Painting and decorating tools, equipment and materials
Preparing surfaces for decoration
Applying paint and coatings using brushes and rollers
Basic decorative finishes and techniques
Understanding paints, finishes and surface materials
Workplace practices and standards within the painting and decorating industry
Communication, teamwork and employability skills
The course is designed to reflect real working conditions and prepare you for progression within the trade.
Assessment is practical and ongoing, allowing you to demonstrate your skills as you develop them.
You will be assessed through:
Practical assessments in workshop conditions
Tutor observation of painting and decorating skills and safe working practices
Portfolio evidence, including photos, worksheets and written tasks
Online and Written Assessments
Knowledge?based assignments related to materials, methods and health and safety
Full time for one academic year
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-3 or equivalent including English and Maths.
On successful completion of this qualification, you may progress to:
An apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating
Further construction?related training or site?based qualifications
This course provides a strong foundation for learners aiming to build a career in the painting and decorating industry.
Due to the practical nature of the course, all students will require essential safety equipment, including work trousers and steel toe?cap boots. You will be fully supported by our experienced, trade?qualified tutors to help you achieve your goals.
