Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities Level 2 Certificate

There are an estimated 1.5 million people living with a learning disability in the UK. The effects on individuals can vary widely and affect people of every age and background. Each individual with a learning disability is entitled to receive personalised and lifelong support provided by health and social care organisations and a network of carers. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of issues surrounding different types of learning disabilities and how these affect individuals in their daily lives, including safeguarding, positive risk taking and an awareness of the autistic spectrum.
This course is suited to those working with individuals with learning disabilities to enhance your knowledge and understanding of personalised care in this context.
Aims:
• Develop knowledge of working with individuals with learning disabilities or difficulties.
• Explore safeguarding, positive risk-taking, and autism spectrum awareness.
Objectives:
• Prepare for employment supporting people with learning disabilities in healthcare, education, or housing support roles.
This course is split into six manageable units:
Unit 1: Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
Unit 2: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Unit 3: Introduction to personalisation in social care
Unit 4: Principles of positive risk taking for individuals with disabilities
Unit 5: Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
Unit 6: Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare
You will complete online platform-based questions — there are no exams and no grades.
To pass, you must show that you have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria set out in the qualification specification.
Our qualified assessors will give you detailed feedback, 1:1 support, and clear targets to help you succeed.
Support is available through the learning portal, email, or phone.
If your work doesn't meet the required standard, you will receive feedback, a new target date, and the chance to resubmit.
This course runs over 24 weeks and includes a recommended 143 guided learning hours (GLH). You can apply at any time, with flexible start dates available throughout the year.
There is no specific prior skill or knowledge required for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 1 health and social care-related qualification.
We recommend you already have at least a Level 1 in English (GCSE grade 3/D or equivalent).
