Understanding Autism Level 2 Certificate
Is this course for me?
Autism is a condition which presents itself as a wide spectrum of disorders, and is prevalent through the UK. People who have autistic spectrum disorders can be affected differently, with cases ranging from mild to severe. Throughout this qualification, you will gain an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways, as well as exploring the importance of using a person-centred approach to provide support. You will also understand how to use appropriate communication skills and positive behaviour to encourage individuals with autistic spectrum conditions to live fulfilling and independent lives.
This course is suitable for those who wish to develop their understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals to live healthy and fulfilled lives. The course will benefit those who work, or want to work, with people who have an autistic spectrum condition.
Aims:
• Develop knowledge of autism and person-centred support approaches.
• Explore positive communication methods and healthy living support.
Objectives:
• Support progression into employment roles requiring autism understanding.
This course is split into six manageable units:
Unit 1: Introduction to autism
Unit 2: Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
Unit 3: Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism
Unit 4: Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
Unit 5: Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
Unit 6: Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives
You will complete online platform-based questions — there are no exams and no grades.
To pass, you must show that you have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria set out in the qualification specification.
Our qualified assessors will give you detailed feedback, 1:1 support, and clear targets to help you succeed.
Support is available through the learning portal, email, or phone.
If your work doesn't meet the required standard, you will receive feedback, a new target date, and the chance to resubmit.
This course runs over 24 weeks and includes a recommended 152 guided learning hours (GLH). You can apply at any time, with flexible start dates available throughout the year.
There is no specific prior skill or knowledge required for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 1 health and social care-related qualification.
We recommend you already have at least a Level 1 in English (GCSE grade 3/D or equivalent).
