This qualification provides in?depth knowledge and understanding of the installation, operation and safety requirements of electrical energy storage systems used in domestic and small commercial settings.
You will study areas such as:
Health, safety and risk assessment for EESS installations
Electrical principles relating to energy storage systems
Types of battery storage systems and technologies
System components and configuration
Installation requirements and best practice
Integration with renewable energy systems such as solar PV
Protection devices, isolation and earthing
Commissioning, inspection and testing procedures
Fault diagnosis and emergency procedures
Relevant standards, regulations and grid connection requirements
Learning is mainly classroom?based, supported by practical examples and system layouts to reflect real working conditions. The training covers the installation of dedicated electrical energy storage systems (EESS) in accordance with the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems
Assessment is designed to confirm technical understanding and competence in line with industry standards.
You will be assessed through:
Knowledge?based assessments such as written or multiple?choice tests
Completion of BPEC?set assessment criteria
Demonstrating understanding of safe working practices and system requirements
This qualification focuses on knowledge and professional competence rather than full practical installation assessment.

Candidates must hold their 18th Edition qualification and must meet one of the following requirements:
N/SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) and BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.
Or
Equivalent historical qualifications
Or
ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card
