Have you already completed an HND or Foundation Degree in Computing and want to take your qualification to the next level?
This one-year top-up degree is designed for students who want to turn their existing Level 5 qualification into a full honours degree. You'll build on your knowledge of digital systems, software, and emerging technologies, while developing advanced academic, research and problem-solving skills.
Whether you want to progress into a career in AI, software development, cybersecurity or data science, this course provides a strong foundation for the next step in your computing career. It's also an ideal route for progressing into postgraduate study.
This course covers the essential technologies and research skills needed to succeed in modern computing environments. You'll work with up-to-date tools and techniques used across the industry, with a strong emphasis on professional practice and innovation.
Modules include:
• Honours Degree Project (Double Module)
• Artificial Intelligence
• Cloud Computing
• Data Science
• Cross Platform Development
You'll be assessed through a blend of coursework and practical assignments that reflect industry standards. These include:
• Project work
• Technical reports and portfolios
• Presentations
• Blogs and vlogs
• Software demonstrations
• Digital screencasts and livestreams
This multi-modal approach gives you a diverse portfolio of assessed work that you can showcase to employers.
This is a full-time course studied over one academic year. You'll typically attend two days per week.
To join you'll need a HND or Foundation Degree in a relevant subject. Students must also possess a Grade 4 or above in English and maths at GCSE or equivalent.
This course opens up a range of exciting next steps:
• Employment - in roles such as Software Engineer, Business Analyst, Web Developer, Systems Administrator, or Data Analyst
• Postgraduate Study - including MSc programmes in Computer Science, Information Security, Software Engineering, or Cybersecurity
• Freelance or Start-up Work - Graduates have gone on to launch their own successful businesses or work independently in digital and creative sectors
You'll study in our modern Centre for Advanced Technical Studies, with access to:
• University-standard computing labs and software
• Hardware for internet of things (IoT), AI and virtualisation
• Guest talks from industry professionals - which may include speakers from companies such as Sony Playstation, IBM, Microsoft and others
• Possible industry visits to events such as the Euro Gamer Expo
