This qualification develops the core technical knowledge and practical skills required for electrical installation work. Learning combines classroom?based theory with hands?on workshop activities that reflect real workplace practice.
You will study areas such as:
Health and safety in electrical installation
Electrical scientific principles
Electrical installation technology
Wiring systems and enclosures
Safe isolation procedures
Installation of lighting, power and socket circuits
Inspection, testing and basic fault diagnosis
Understanding regulations and industry standards
Employability skills, communication and teamwork
The course is designed to prepare you for further training or an apprenticeship in the Electrical Installation Industry.
Assessment is ongoing and combines both practical and knowledge?based methods.
You will be assessed through:
Practical assessments carried out in workshop environments
Tutor observation of electrical installation skills and safe working practices
Written assignments and online multiple?choice tests
Portfolio evidence of completed tasks and assessments
Assessment focuses on your ability to work safely, follow procedures, and demonstrate technical understanding. Some units include online exams set by City & Guilds.
Full time for one academic year
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including English, Maths and Science.
On successful completion of this qualification, you may progress to:
Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications
An Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation or Maintenance
Further study within Electrical or Building Services Engineering
This course forms a key step towards becoming a fully qualified electrician.
Due to the practical nature of the course, all students will require essential safety equipment, including work trousers and steel toe?cap boots. You will be fully supported by our experienced, trade?qualified tutors to help you achieve your goals.

Students aged 19+ will need to pay an exam fee of £195.50
