The modules listed in bold are core (mandatory) modules. Additional optional modules * are also included to make up the total credits required for your qualification — these are chosen by course leaders and maybe subject to change.

The course blends theory with hands-on learning, including animal handling, practical health checks, habitat assessment, and business project planning.

You'll be assessed through a mix of practical work and coursework that reflects real-life scenarios in the animal sector. This includes:

• Reports and research assignments

• Practical animal handling and observation tasks

• Project work

• Presentations and case studies

All assessments are designed to help you build confidence, communication skills, and professional awareness.

You'll study full-time, three days a week for one academic year. This format allows time for part-time work, volunteering, or other commitments alongside your studies.

For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:



• Level 3 Animal Management (minimum MMM profile, 96 UCAS points)

• Level 3 Applied Science (minimum MMM profile, 96 UCAS points)

• T-Level in Animal Management and Behaviour (Pass, C or above on Core 96 UCAS points)

• A-Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one A-Level subject, equivalent to 96 UCAS points.



This profile must be supported by GCSE maths and English grades at A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent)

Once you've completed your HNC, you can:

• Progress directly to the HND in Animal Management — deepening your skills, leading your own research, and preparing for higher-level careers

• Apply for entry-level roles in the animal care sector, such as animal technician, zoo or wildlife assistant, or animal welfare officer

• Work in a wide range of environments — from kennels and rescue centres to education, conservation, and environmental charities

The HNC gives you the solid foundation — and the hands-on experience — to go further, whether that's straight into the workplace or continuing your education.

At our Leigh College campus, you'll benefit from a newly expanded, industry-standard Animal Management Centre designed to simulate real-world settings. This purpose-built facility includes:

• A scenario-based learning environment with spaces dedicated to animal boarding, veterinary care, a pet shop, and an aquatics centre.

• Multi-modal classrooms that integrate practical and theoretical learning, preparing you for diverse roles in the animal care industry.

Our animal management classrooms are home to over 20 different species of reptiles and rodents, providing hands-on experience in caring for and managing a variety of animals.

You'll be taught by a dedicated team of lecturers and technicians with real-world experience in animal care, veterinary nursing, conservation, and zoology. Their expertise ensures that your learning is grounded in current industry practices.

Students aged 16-18 do not pay exam fees.
