Are you ready to take your creative career to the next level?
This one-year top-up degree is designed for students who have already completed a foundation degree or HND in a creative subject and want to graduate with a full BA (Hons) qualification.
You'll specialise in the Graphics pathway, deepening your skills in visual communication, design strategy, and creative development. This course gives you the chance to define and refine your personal creative practice, supported by industry-experienced tutors, professional-standard facilities, and exciting real-world opportunities.
You'll explore advanced creative development through practice, research and enterprise. The course is structured around four core modules:
• Research and Creative Experimentation for the Industrial Practitioner
• Professional Practice for the Creative Industries
• Business Awareness and Enterprise Project
• Final Exhibition
These modules will help you shape your own creative identity, develop commercial awareness, and prepare for success in the creative industries.
Assessment is through coursework, practical projects and presentations. You'll be assessed via:
• Portfolio submissions
• Written evaluations and research reports
• Practical assignments and proposals
• A final public exhibition showcasing your work
This is a full-time course studied over one academic year. You'll typically attend two days per week.
You should have completed a Foundation Degree in Creative Industries or an HND/Foundation Degree in a related creative subject.
This course opens the door to:
• Postgraduate Study - including MA or PGCE programmes in creative and education fields
• Employment - in roles across the design, advertising, marketing, and visual communication industries
• Freelance Opportunities - many graduates go on to run their own creative businesses or work independently as designers
As part of the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT), this course is aligned with the needs of employers and gives you access to a strong regional network.
You'll study in our dedicated graphics studio, using:
• Cloud-based software and Adobe Creative Suite
• Large format printing and professional design tools
There are also opportunities to:
• Visit creative agencies and studios (including possible trips to Berlin and UK-based design firms)
• Take part in live briefs and industry-linked assignments
• Engage with designers from consultancies such as Pentagram and Absolute*
