FE to HE Engineering Bridging Course
Is this course for me?
If you want to study a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering but don't yet meet the entry requirements — or you've been out of education for a while — this course is designed for you.
The FE to HE Bridging Course helps you refresh and build essential maths and science knowledge so you can confidently progress into Level 4 study in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering. It's ideal for applicants with industry experience who need an academic stepping stone into higher education.
You'll cover key mathematical and scientific principles typically taught at Level 3, such as:
• Calculus and algebra
• Forces and motion
• Vectors
• Core engineering science concepts
These topics will give you the foundation needed to succeed on an HNC.
Assessment is through short, open-book tasks completed in class — designed to check your understanding and support your progression.
You'll study 3 hours per week for 16 weeks.
To apply, you'll need:
• GCSE Maths at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
• Significant industry experience in an engineering-related role
• A genuine commitment to progressing onto an HNC with us.
Successful completion of this course provides a pathway into one of our Level 4 Higher National Certificates in:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Civil Engineering
This course is free for students planning to progress onto one of our HNC Engineering programmes.
You'll be taught by experienced engineering lecturers who understand the needs of adult learners returning to study.
Students aged 16-18 do not pay exam fees.
