The North-West Construction & Technology Excellence College (CTEC) at Wigan & Leigh College provides high-quality training for careers in construction. It was created in response to the need for around 40,000 new workers to fill construction jobs across the UK.

You'll explore how new technologies, off-site manufacturing techniques, and sustainable materials are transforming the way we build. Alongside developing your understanding of core construction principles, you'll gain insight into the tools and methods that are driving innovation across the sector.

Throughout the course, you'll also develop essential workplace skills — like critical thinking, communication, and digital fluency — so you're not just qualified, but genuinely ready for the modern construction world.
Assessment is practical and work-focused. You'll complete:
• Written assignments
• Project work
• Practical tasks
These assessments are designed to reflect real-life scenarios, enabling you to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
You'll study 1 day per week for 2 years. This part-time format is designed to work alongside your job or personal commitments.
To apply, you'll need:
• 96 UCAS points (MMM) from an Extended Diploma
• GCSE Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
We also welcome applications from mature students with experience, a portfolio of work, or references from employers. 64 UCAS points (MM) from a relevant level 3 Diploma is desirable.

• Higher or Degree Apprenticeships - Use this qualification as a stepping stone to further structured training
• HND - Continue your studies to complete a Higher National Diploma

This course can also be delivered as part of a higher or degree apprenticeship.
This qualification is also mapped to occupational standards and supports recognition by professional bodies — helping you move forward with confidence and credibility.
