A new case of dementia is diagnosed somewhere in the world every four seconds. Dementia not only affects the individual, but can also impact on their family and friends. Whether you want to develop a career in the care industry, or you simply want to know more about dementia for personal reasons, this course is the perfect place to start, as it explores crucial elements of the different types of dementia. The knowledge you will gain from this course could help you care for a friend or relative with dementia and enhance your understanding of their needs and behaviour.
For those working in the care profession or considering a career in this field of work. This qualification is also suitable for home carers or anyone who has an interest in learning more about dementia.
Aims:
• Develop knowledge of caring for individuals with dementia.
• Cover areas such as person-centred care, positive communication, medication use, and meaningful activities.
Objectives:
• Support underpinning knowledge for those working towards or in a dementia care role.
This course is split into seven manageable units:
Unit 1: Dementia awareness
Unit 2: Person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a personcentred approach
Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
You will complete online platform-based questions — there are no exams and no grades.
To pass, you must show that you have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria set out in the qualification specification.

Support is available through the learning portal, email, or phone.
If your work doesn't meet the required standard, you will receive feedback, a new target date, and the chance to resubmit.
This course runs over 24 weeks and includes a recommended 123 guided learning hours (GLH). You can apply at any time, with flexible start dates available throughout the year.
There is no specific prior skill or knowledge required for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 1 health and social care-related qualification.
We recommend you already have at least a Level 1 in English (GCSE grade 3/D or equivalent).
