Nutrition is the key to a healthy body and mind, and understanding the values of a diet and exercise plan is an important part of maintaining overall well-being. This nationally recognised qualification explores influential factors such as the principles of healthy eating and weight management. The course also introduces nutrition in the context of eating disorders, and explains how to prepare food safely in a home environment. Whether you want to improve your knowledge around diet and health for personal reasons, or wish to develop your employment opportunities, this course provides a comprehensive understanding of the key topics surrounding nutrition and health.
The qualification is ideal for anyone who wishes to develop their knowledge and skills on diet and health, different forms of nutrition, planning a weight management programme and food safety awareness.
Aims:
• Focus on the study of nutrition and healthy eating.
Objectives:
• Understand healthy eating principles.
• Plan and achieve a healthy diet.
• Understand food labelling, eating disorders, weight management, and food safety.
This course is split into six manageable units:
Unit 1: Explore principles of healthy eating
Unit 2: Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
Unit 3: Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
Unit 4: The principles of weight management
Unit 5: Understanding eating disorders
Unit 6: Principles of food safety for the home environment
You will complete online platform-based questions — there are no exams and no grades.
To pass, you must show that you have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria set out in the qualification specification.
Our qualified assessors will give you detailed feedback, 1:1 support, and clear targets to help you succeed.
Support is available through the learning portal, email, or phone.
If your work doesn't meet the required standard, you will receive feedback, a new target date, and the chance to resubmit.
This course runs over 24 weeks and includes a recommended 126 guided learning hours (GLH). You can apply at any time, with flexible start dates available throughout the year.
There is no specific prior skill or knowledge required for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 1 health and social care-related qualification.
We recommend you already have at least a Level 1 in English (GCSE grade 3/D or equivalent).
