Is this course for me?

Access to HE Diplomas are well established national qualifications which allow students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply for degree courses and enter university level study. The education route is for those who wish to progress on to degrees which will lead to careers in primary, secondary, FE teaching as well as other roles in the education sector. It is recommended that you research university courses carefully before starting your Level 3 studies.

What will I study?

The Access to HE Diploma in Teaching covers units drawn from a range of education related topics including Education Studies, English Literature, Psychology, Sociology as well as core Study Skills.

How long is the course?

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week for one year.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is on going and developed through a portfolio of course work. A large proportion of your work will be essay or assignment based but you can also expect exams, presentations and project work.

What qualifications do I need?

You will need GCSE English, Maths and a Science at Grade A* - C / 9-4 plus an interview. No equivalents are accepted other than a GCSE Biology can be accepted instead of GCSE Science.

What can I progress onto?

You can progress onto university to study a degree course in teaching and education. We advise that you research university entry requirements because some will stipulate certain GCSE qualifications too.

Other Information

Students will need a clean DBS check in order to pursue careers in teaching / youth work. An Advanced Learning Loan is available for this course.
