Is this course for me?

This course is for people who want to pursue a career in health and social care. From this course, learners are able to apply for places in higher education including nursing, midwifery, speech therapy, podiatry, radiography, occupational therapy, Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), Psychology and Paramedic.

What will I study?

This course gives the learner a chance to explore various disciplines such as health, psychology, biology, sociology, research and others all of which feature heavily in health and social care training and education programmes.

How long is the course?

Tuesday and Thursday evening, 6.00-9.00pm, each week for two years.

How will I be assessed?

Through various forms of course work which is continuously assessed, including written assignments, presentations and debates.

What qualifications do I need?

You will need to have GCSE English Grade A*-C / 9-4 plus an interview. GCSE Maths is desirable but if you do not have this an equivalent maths qualification will be accepted. Applicants will need to check if the specialism they wish to progress to (Midwif

What can I progress onto?

Almost all students go onto University to train in professional health and care careers. Some progress onto the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.

This course has close links with local Universities, which gives the learner an opportunity to participate in enrichment programmes. Please note that the award of the Diploma does not provide guaranteed entry to UK Higher Education. Voluntary experience will enhance your future applications
