Is this course for me?

Access to HE Diplomas are well established national qualifications which allow students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply for degree courses and enter university level study. The Psychology and Criminology route is for those who wish to progress on to degrees which will lead to careers in psychology or criminology. It is recommended that you research university courses carefully before starting your Level 3 studies.

What will I study?

The units you will study include: Transition Psychology, Personality Theory, Concepts of Normality and Mental Health, Criminology Justice and Social Policy, Forensic Evidence, Sociological Theory and Exploring Social Policy. You will also study units to support your learning including Academic Essay Writing.

How long is the course?

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week for one year.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is on going and developed through a portfolio of course work. A large proportion of your work will be essay or assignment based but you can also expect exams, presentations and project work.

What qualifications do I need?

You will need GCSE English Grade A* - C / 9-4. No equivalent for English is accepted. GCSE maths is desirable (if no GCSE maths an equivalent will be accepted). Acceptable equivalents for maths are Level 2 Basic Skills Numeracy, Functional Skills Level 2

What can I progress onto?

You can progress onto university to study a degree course in Psychology or Criminology or a combined honours degree.

Typical Tasks

  • Takes overall responsibility for, supervises and directs the implementation of care and treatment plans by other healthcare providers.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures, undertakes research, and conducts and participates in clinical trials.
  • Performs specialist medical tasks such as surgery, anaesthetisation and diagnostic or interventional radiology.
  • Provides specialist advice to generalist medical practitioners or other specialists.
