Is this course for me?

This course is aimed at adult returners. It allows students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in HE.

What will I study?

The course consists of 20 units of study. There is a central core which provides the essential background in mathematics, information technology, communication skills, personal development and study skills, as well as other units that prepare you for the research and reporting skills you will require. The major content of the course consists of physics and chemistry units chosen to give you a broad scientific knowledge.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year. Three days per week

How will I be assessed?

Assignments are kept in a portfolio of evidence that is internally assessed and externally moderated.

What qualifications do I need?

You will need to have GCSE Maths Grade A*-C / 9-4 plus an interview. You will also need to have GCSE Science Grade A*-C / 9-4 or an equivalent Science qualification. GCSE English is desirable but if you do not have this an equivalent qualification will

What can I progress onto?

Successful completion of the course will lead towards course and careers in science including Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, and other Physical Science areas.

Other Information

The College has many years of experience with Access courses. The Science lecturers will make sure your classes are interesting and enjoyable. Many students progress onto higher qualifications.
