Is this course for me?

You should study for this qualification, if you would like to work as an accounts assistant in a manual or computerised accounting environment.

What will I study?

The AAT Foundation Stage accounts programme consists of: processing bookkeeping transactions, control accounts, journals and the banking system, basic costing and computerised accounting.

How long is the course?

This is a one year, part time course, covering four hours per week in class.

How will I be assessed?

By computerised external assessment.

What qualifications do I need?

The programme is entirely open access and there are no prescribed entry requirements, although assessments will involve written and numerical assignments and therefore students should possess basic communication and number skills.

What can I progress onto?

You may progress onto AAT Intermediate and Technician levels and ultimately membership of the AAT (MAAT).

The Association of Accounting Technicians is recognised by leading accounting institutions: the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
