Is this course for me?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to embark on learning bricklaying for the first time. Bricklaying looks easy, but takes skill. This could be your chance to start a career that is challenging and enjoyable, but can also command a high salary to those who are successful.

What will I study?

This course consists of practical tasks and theoretical study. You will cover basic bricklaying skills including: simple brick walls, block work, cavity work and basic arches. It provides the required knowledge to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying. You will learn how to carry out safe working practices in construction, knowledge of building methods and construction technology, know how to carry out basic block laying skills and basic bricklaying skills.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by an externally set theoretical knowledge test, together with unit tests and continually assessed coursework. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 A*-E/F / 9-2 subjects or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

This can lead to further study at Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or an apprenticeship if employment is gained.

Other Information

You will need a basic kit, overalls and safety boots. You will be supported by experienced and enthusiastic tutors who are all trade qualified who will help you achieve your goal.
