Is this course for me?

This course is suitable for people looking to develop their career working with children and young people in education and/or care settings. Previous students are now working in education, special needs education, nursery care and local authority positions such as children's services, safeguarding and foster care services.

What will I study?

The course includes units covering: Promoting the Welfare of Children and Young People; Contextualising Welfare; Managing the Professional Role in Practice; Frameworks, Transition & the Child; Policy & Practice for Children & Young People; Children, Young People & their World; Aspects of Learning & Development and Difference & Diversity

How long is the course?

One evening a week for three academic years.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assignment based with no exams. Assessments include; interpreting observations, case studies, reports, presentations, essays, research projects and the production of Professional Development Portfolios.*UCLan are currently reviewing this cou

What qualifications do I need?

64 UCAS Tariff Points. Students must also possess a Grade C or above in English at GCSE or equivalent. Mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references.

As a student on a course awarded by UCLan you are also a student of the university. This means that you have access to facilities including library, social facilities and the Students' Union. You are expected to be in appropriate employment or undertake a work placement with children or young people for 2 days per week.
