Is this course for me?

So what are T Levels? They are high quality work focused alternatives to A levels. There is academic study, coupled with practical, industry related skills and 750 hours of industry placement built into the course.

What will I study?

You will spend 750 hours on placement to include weekly placement and some block weeks. The rest of the time will be spent in College. You will gain an insight into the childcare and early years sector, exploring a range of topics, including: practical care skills; personal and social development; legislation framework and professional practice; play; safeguarding; and health and safety. Your studies will prepare you to work with children from birth to five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years.You will benefit from our partnership with Edge Hill University with visits to campus, sessions delivered by university academics and meetings with current trainee teachers. You will also receive support from them with UCAS applications and a guaranteed interview if you choose to apply for a course there.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years.

How will I be assessed?

Through continual assessment using practical observations, written assignments, exams and an employer set project.

What qualifications do I need?

A minumum of 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including Maths & English

What can I progress onto?

You may progress to employment in a childcare setting, or to the Foundation Degree Children, Young People and their Services at the University Centre Wigan& Leigh College.

Typical Tasks

  • Treats wood for effects of termites, woodworm and other infestations of timber.
  • Returns to sites to examine contents of traps laid and the continued presence of reported pests.
  • Liaises with environmental health officers, housing officers and other relevant authorities where measures on a large scale are required to remove pests.
  • Advises property owners on courses of action to prevent the return of pests.
  • Lays traps to capture pests, and fumigates and disinfects areas to remove infestations.
  • Visits sites to investigate the presence of rodents, infestations and other pests that may be hazardous to public health.
  • Receives reports from public, property owners and authorities regarding the presence of pests and infestations.
