Is this course for me?

The HNC Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) course provides the opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills providing students with analytical thinking skills and the principles of electrical engineering.

What will I study?

The course includes units such as: Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Managing a Professional Engineering Project, Electrical and Electronic Principles and three units from the following options: Automation, Robotics and PLC, Electrical Machines, Electronic Circuits and Devices, Digital Principles and Electrical Systems and Fault Finding.

How long is the course?

Part-time one day per week for two academic years. A further year can be added to top-up to an HND if required (you need to have completed 10 modules at HNC to top up in one year).

How will I be assessed?

All modules are continually internally assessed, through a variety of written assignments, practical activities and presentations. Some modules allow workbased evidence to be included in the assessment process.

What qualifications do I need?

A relevant Level 3 Diploma. Mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references will be considered. Students must also possess a Grade C or above in Maths at GCSE or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Completion of the HNC may lead to progress onto the HND. Students may progress onto the BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering top up degree at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.
