Is this course for me?

The HND Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) course provides the opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills providing students with analytical thinking skills and the priniciples of electrical engineering.

What will I study?

The course includes units such as: Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Managing a Professional Engineering Project, Electrical and Electronic Priniciples and three units from the following options: Automation, Robotics and PLC, Electrical Machines, Electronic Circuits and Devices, Digital Principles and Electrical Systems and Fault Finding. HND units include all of the above plus: Research Project, Professional Engineering Management, Further Mathematics, Industrial Power, Electronics and Storage, Industrial Systems. A further two units will be offered from the following: Further Machines and Drives, Embedded Systems and Further Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles , Utilisation of Electrical Power.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

All modules are internally assessed through written assignments, practical activities and presentations. Some modules allow work based evidence to be included in the assessment process particularly in the project units.

What qualifications do I need?

48 UCAS tariff points or a HNC in a relevant subject. Mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references will be considered. Students must also possess a Grade C or above in Maths at GCSE or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Students may progress onto the BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering top up degree at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.
