This course is an ideal introduction into hairdressing or just to help you learn basic cutting techniques.

The course will focus on cutting fringes and hair at one length, ideal for those who care for children or adults.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

Basic cutting techniques to include fringe and one length cuts

How long is the course?

2 hours a week for 3 weeks

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments and a written task

What qualifications do I need?

No qualifications needed

What can I progress onto?

Level 2 hairdressing, level 2 barbering

Other Information

No kit or uniform is required, we recommend you wear all black clothes and closed toe shoes

Typical Tasks

  • Demonstrates, sells and recommends hair care products to clients and advises them on hair care.
  • Ensures hair products are stored and used appropriately and observes relevant health and safety factors.
  • Maintains client records and keeps up-to-date with new products, styles and techniques.
  • Collects payment, arranges appointments and cleans and tidies salon.
  • Shaves and trims beards and moustaches.
  • Combs, brushes, blow-dries or sets wet hair in rollers to style or straighten.
  • Cuts and trims hair using scissors, clippers, razor and comb.
  • Washes, conditions, bleaches, tints or dyes hair and provides any necessary basic scalp treatments.
  • Discusses customer requirements, analyses hair condition and other relevant features to define and advise on hair style.
