Is this course for me?

This course is an intermediate vocational qualification aimed at learners who are contemplating a career in hairdressing. The course is designed to deliver a high Level of occupational capability and provides a sound platform from which to progress onto the Level 2 Apprenticeship programme or full time Level 3 Diploma.

What will I study?

Year 1 will focus on colouring techniques whilst year 2 focuses upon cutting techniques.The course includes: working in hairdressing, health & safety, client consultation, principles and practices, Shampoo, condition and treating the hair and scalp, cut hair using basic techniques, style, set and dress hair, plait and twist hair. The course will also include work experience, maths and English at the appropriate level.

How long is the course?

Full time at College plus a work experience placement.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment consists of practical observation, assignment work and written tests.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 A*-D / 9-3 GCSE subjects including maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

Apprenticeship programme at Level 2 or the Level 3 Diploma full time.

Other Information

You will be expected to purchase a Hairdressing Kit and Image Centre uniform. You will also have the opportunity to participate in shows, competitions, fund raising events and trips.
