Is this course for me?

A Leader in Adult Care has responsibility for managing community or residential based services. This role has a large element of leadership, whether with other care workers and networks or in leading the service itself. A successful apprentice will have met all the requirements. They have a responsibility to ensure the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive to peoples needs and well-led. They may be a registered manager of a service, unit, deputy or assistant manager. They will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance of the care given and the values and training of staff with established standards and regulations. Leaders in Adult Care may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, community day centres, a persons own home or some clinical healthcare settings. The role of Leader in Adult Care in this standard also covers Personal Assistants who operate in a management role but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services. What will I study?

In this apprenticeship you will be learning the knowledge, skills and behaviours to be successful in your chosen role, these include: Knowledge & Skills: Codes of practice and risk management, legislative and regulatory frameworks, dignity and human rights, communication, health and well being, safeguarding, professional development and leadership. Behaviours: Summed up by the 'Six Cs': Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Competence and Commitment.

How will I be assessed?

All apprentices now complete an end-point assessment to complete their qualification. This is delivered by an independent end-point assessment organisation with no affiliation to the employer or training provider. This is a national requirement and endpoint assessments are carried out by a third party assessor. End point assessments use a variety of assessment methods depending on the apprenticeship standard these can include:Professional Discussions. Interviews. Showcase portfolios. What qualifications do I need?

Employers are looking for apprentices who have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4. Level 2 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs, graded 9-3 or equivalent, including Maths or English. Level 3 - 6 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs, graded 9-4 or equivalent, including Maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

This apprenticeship provides an ideal entry into the occupation and supports further progression within the sector.

Generalist Medical Practitioners

Generalist medical practitioners diagnose mental and physical injuries, disorders and diseases, prescribe and give treatment, recommend preventative action, and conduct medical education and research activities. They work in hospitals or in general practice and, where necessary, refer the patient to a specialist.

Medical and dental technicians operate, calibrate and maintain cardiographic and encephalographic testing equipment, assist in the conduct of post mortems, give simple dental treatments, fit artificial limbs and hearing aids, and undertake a wide range of related medical and dental tasks.
