Is this course for me?

The Programme will prepare you for progression towards careers in the health and care sectors. The Health Professional pathway will develop a wider knowledge and understanding of medical and care organisations and practices. This route combines the relevant A Levels to improve your prospects for employment, or progression to a prestigious university. As well as studying your core A Levels you will also take up a medical related work placement to gain real industry experience.

What will I study?

You will investigate the variety of life studying A level Biology. You will also study English, Psychology or Sociology and an additional AS subject in the first year.
In year 2 of the Professional Development Day you will complete an Extended Project Qualification. You will also complete additional training in medical skills such as first aid and may join the Debating Society and the iDEA online programme to develop digital skills.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

You will undertake external examinations, produce coursework and practical assessments.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 8 GCSEs graded A*- C / 9 - 5 of which a minimum of 4 GCSEs graded B / 9 - 6 (including English, Maths and Science)

What can I progress onto?

We will support you in applying for places at prestigious universities nationwide, or in securing employment in the healthcare or medical sectors. There are a variety of career prospects and Senior Radiographers can expect to earn over £40k a year.
Salaries for paramedics and nurses range from £22 - £35k. With experience and seniority, they may rise to £69k. Other career opportunities include Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs work in operating theatres), Prosthetist, Patient Transport Service Call Handler, Learning Disability Nurse, Midwife, Children's Nurse, Neonatal Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Optometrist.
