If you are technically minded, good at maths and science, and like solving problems, a professional career in engineering could be a great move for you. Mechanical Engineers develop and design components and machinery used in many industries like manufacturing, construction, water, power, health and transport. They also manage teams of technicians and craftspeople, who carry out installation and maintenance work. Our courses are designed to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to enter employment in this diverse sector, or progress to university level study. This course would provide you with the practical skills to begin a rewarding career in the dynamic engineering industry. The course covers Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication & Welding and Electrical Engineering.

What will I study?

This course would provide you with the practical skills to begin a rewarding career in the dynamic engineering industry. The course typical units include: Fitting, Machining, Producing Sheet l Components and Assemblies, Working in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Machining by Turning. You will also learn how to work safely in Engineering environments. 60% practical 40% theoretical.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year

How will I be assessed?

Through competence based assessment within individual units, and external examinations and completed evidence portfolio for the Certificate in Engineering Level 2.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subject graded 9-3 or equivalent including maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

You will be eligible to apply for an Engineering apprenticeship and progress onto a Level 3 in an engineering discipline. Mechanical Engineers can expect to earn between £22 and £55k a year. Other career prospects include Aerospace Engineers, Aerospace Engineering Technicians, CAD Technicians CNC Machinists, Engineering Craft Machinists, Design and Development Engineers, Materials Engineers, Engineer Operatives.
